Maggie Rogers heeft zojuist haar nieuwe single ‘On + Off’ online beschikbaar gemaakt. Dus het is te hopen dat het nummer zo weer niet offline is. Het is voor het eerst dat een liedje een beetje luid is, zo vertelde Maggie Rogers tegen BBC Radio 1. ‘On + Off’ zal ook op haar nieuwe EP “Now That The Light Is Fading” dat als haar debuut wordt gezien. Ook al staan er al wat albums van haar op Bandcamp die inderdaad zonder uitzondering rustig van aard zijn.
Hoe dansbaar ‘On + Off’ ook is, haar onmiskenbare folk roots blijven hoorbaar.
It’s a song you can dance to and a song you can get down to, but for me there’s a lot of heart and soul in it, too. There’s a sort of sexual cliché in the song. There’s a lyric that says ‘You turn me on’ but if you listen to the rest of the lyrics, that is actually about emotional stability. Being on and off and finding a person that grounds you. Because I think that’s one of the things that’s most important to me in relationships.
