De Australische bands Pond en Tame Impala zijn onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. Zo speelde Nick Allbrook, frontman van Pond, van 2009 tot 2013 in beide bands. En Tame Impala bandleden Kevin Parker, Cam Avery en Julien Barbagallo hebben allen ook in Pond gezeten.
Kevin Parker is nog steeds de producer van de band die 5 mei haar nieuwe album “The Weather” uitbrengt waarop ook Tame Impala bandlid Tame Impala member Jay Watson te horen is.
Twee singles zijn er reeds uitgebracht en daarop laat Pond toch wel een wat ander geluid horen. Van Psychedelic naar Space Rock.
27 mei staat Pond op het Amsterdamse festival London Calling. Nick Allbrook legt uit waarom als Australische band op een festival staan dat om Britse muziek draait. Toevallig is het namelijk ook het thema op het nieuwe album “The Weather”.
It’s a concept album, not completely about Perth, but focusing on all the weird contradictory things that make up a lot of colonial cities around the world. Laying out all the dark things underneath the shimmering exterior of cranes, development, money and white privilege.
It’s not our place, but it is our place. British, but Australian, but not REAL Australian. On the edge of the world with a hell of a lot of fucked things defining our little city, still we try and live a wholesome respectful life, while being inherently disrespectful.
At the end of all this confusion in our weird little white antipodean world, there’s the beach, purity and nature that brings us all together.
